1. Burst Pipes
What to do: Immediately locate your home's main water shut-off valve (usually outside or in the garage) and turn it clockwise to cut off all water supply. Open cold water taps to drain remaining water from the lines.
2. Overflowing Toilets
What to do: Do not flush again! Reach behind the base of the toilet and turn the silver shut-off valve clockwise until it stops. If the valve is stuck, open the tank lid and push down the rubber flapper to seal the drain.
3. Sewer System Backup
What to do: If foul-smelling water is backing up into your tub or sink, stop using all water immediately. Turn off washing machines and dishwashers. Avoid using chemical drain cleaners, as they will only damage the pipes further.
4. Leaking Water Heater
What to do: First, turn off the power at your breaker box (or shut off the gas valve). Then, turn off the cold water supply valve located on top of the unit. This stops the tank from continuously refilling and flooding your floor.
5. Gas Line Leaks
What to do: If you smell rotten eggs, leave the house immediately. Do not flip any light switches, unplug appliances, or use your phone inside. Once safely outside, call your gas provider and our emergency plumbing team.
